These days I've been testing out a number of skincare products c/o Wishtrend, one of which is the By Wishtrend Vitamin A-mazing Bakuchiol Night Cream*. I'm 32, turning 33 later this year, and while I'm always thankful to be told that I look younger than my age (because this means I'm doing a good job taking care of my skin!), I've started to really notice my skin aging. Fine lines, wrinkles, enlarged pores, worsening skin texture, you name it 😩 I think this is the perfect time to look into anti-aging skincare, which is why this product came at the perfect time! I tested this night cream for 1 full month to see if there's any visible difference. Read on for my detailed review! ✨
Formulated with retinal and bakuchiol, the By Wishtrend Vitamin A-mazing Bakuchiol Night Cream is a hypoallergenic overnight moisturizer that targets fine lines and wrinkles, age spots, dullness, uneven skin tone and texture, and other signs of aging. Retinal is a Vitamin A derivative that works in the same way as other retinoids, but comes with little to no irritation. Bakuchiol, on the other hand, is an ingredient derived from the psoralea corylifolia plant. It functions similar to a retinol, increasing cell turnover thereby stimulating collagen production and diminishing signs of aging. The Vitamin A-mazing Night Cream comes in an airless pump container to keep vitamin A stable for a long time, since it easily deteriorates when exposed to air. My first reaction upon receiving this product is that the purple and yellow-green color combination is super eye-catching! Definitely something you'd check out if you see it in-store. The cream itself has a bright yellow color due to the key ingredient, retinal. The product does leave a slight yellow stain when applied, but it's not that noticeable and it goes away once I wash my face in the morning.
To use, apply 1 or 2 pumps of the Vitamin A-mazing Night Cream after applying your serum (or if you don't use serums, after your toner). Check your skin's reaction to the product by using a small amount. Increase the amount little by little to find the appropriate amount for your skin. If you have sensitive skin or if you're new to vitamin A products, it's recommended to adjust the amount of product or frequency of application.
Texture-wise, it feels like a thick cream, but doesn't feel heavy at all. When I use it with my more moisturizing serums though, it does feel a little bit oily and takes a while to settle into the skin. In fact, the Vitamin A-mazing Night Cream is so lightweight that I when I first used it I didn't believe it could work as a standalone moisturizer. I even used a separate moisturizer underneath! But I realized that could be making the cream less effective, so I stopped and just hoped it would be enough. And it was! Upon further inspection, this cream also has Hyaluronic Acid, Ceramide 3, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), and Collagen, which are all great ingredients for a moisturizing cream.
On Wishtrend it says that this product cannot be applied with high-content Vitamin C products or any exfoliants. Personally I've been using it alongside BHA, but only after introducing both products slowly into my routine. What I did was I removed the BHA completely from my routine, then used the Vitamin A-mazing Night Cream 2x a week for two weeks, and then 3x, and so on until I built up to using it every night. I then started re-introducing BHA into my routine using the same pattern. Now I use the Bakuchiol Night Cream every night, and BHA 3x a week. I do use a Vitamin C serum sometimes, but in the morning. And the one I use isn't pure Vitamin C, so it's not as strong. A lot of people recommend alternating products so you don't use them in the same routine, but I've found that I'm able to use both without any problems. YMMV though, so make sure to listen to your skin!
As I mentioned at the start of this post, I used the Vitamin A-mazing Night Cream for a month before writing this review. I did get a bit of purging at the start, but it's only a few little bumps that went away after just a few days. While I can't say much about its anti-aging claims, what I can say is that it's helped A LOT with fading my acne scars / hyperpigmentation. Skin texture is a lot more even as well. While I'm a bit disappointed about my fine lines, I'm super happy about my PIH fading! This has been my number one skin concern for so long, I'm glad I found something that works well for it. And without the irritation that usually comes from using tretinoin, too.
If you're a beginner who's looking to get into retinoids, or if you have sensitive skin that doesn't work well with retinol/tretinoin, I highly, highly recommend this. A lot of seasoned skincare enthusiasts are quick to recommend tret because it's considered the "gold standard" when it comes to anti-aging, but I know a lot of people with sensitive or highly reactive skin can't tolerate it. I don't think I've talked about this before, but I have a skin condition called dermatographia (skin writing). While it can be annoying when it flares up, it doesn't really affect my daily life. When I started using tret again in 2020, my skin got super irritated even though I wasn't new to using it. My skin was super itchy and hot, and it felt 10x worse because of the dermatographia. I stopped using tret after that. I had to baby my skin for months! I was hesitant to use retinoids again, but after doing my research on retinal and bakuchiol, I decided to give the Vitamin A-mazing Night Cream a try. I'm really glad I did! I just wish it would work on my fine lines though LOL. After a few more months of continuous use, hopefully!
