If you've been following me for a while now, you probably know how I'm always on the lookout for good lightweight, hydrating skincare products for my oily-dehydrated skin. Well, thanks to Wishtrend, I recently got to try the Rovectin Skin Essentials Activating Treatment Lotion*, which fits the bill perfectly! Read on to find out more about the product and my personal experience with it 🌱
The Rovectin Skin Essentials Activating Treatment Lotion is a powerful toner + essence that hydrates the skin to create a younger, more supple appearance. It features Rovectin's Hydrating Barrier Repair Complex, which helps repair and restore the skin's natural moisture barrier. It includes 7 different types of hyaluronic acid (inner hydration), papaya fruit extract (exfoliation), caffeine (soothing), Vitamin B5 (skin elasticity, damage repair), and Rovectin's Aqua Cell Activator (skin elasticity, moisture). This product also contains niacinamide and licorice root extract to visibly improve uneven skin tone, fine lines, and wrinkles. Full ingredients list here.
The reason why I was super excited to try the Activating Treatment Lotion is because I heard it was a toner and essence in one. Sounds like my type of toner! Hada Labo really set the standard for me when it comes to toners, so in my mind (and in my heart!!) I was hoping for the Activating Treatment Lotion to be similar to my holy grail, the HL Gokujyun Premium. Texture-wise, they're very similar, only the Activating Treatment Lotion is slightly more watery. But after using it consistently for more than a month, I can say that it's definitely not the same as the Gokujyun Premium. That's not to say that it doesn't do its job! It's just that the Gokujyun Premium is such a strong contender in the hydrating department. But I think the Activating Treatment Lotion is a pretty close second! Though in terms of texture and overall effects, I feel that it's a lot closer to the Shirojyun Premium, which I also love. The Activating Treatment Lotion also contains skin brightening ingredients (niacinamide and licorice root extract). I guess you could put it this way: if the Gokujyun Premium focuses on hydration and the Shirojyun Premium focuses on brightening, then the Activating Treatment Lotion would be somewhere in the middle.
The Activating Treatment Lotion is very lightweight and gets absorbed into the skin almost instantly. It does feel a little tacky upon application, but I find that it's not as bad if you apply it while your face is still a bit wet. Though if you've used any of the Hada Labo toners, you might already be familiar with the tacky feeling. Any product with high concentrations of hyaluronic acid is bound to be tacky/sticky because of the nature of HA as a humectant. The tacky feeling doesn't really stick (hehe) for long though, so I use this lotion both in the AM and PM.
That being said, hyaluronic acid works the best in humid climates because there's a lot of water in the air. If you live in a dry climate, using HA products on their own isn't really optimal. There's a possibility that the HA might draw water from the deeper layers of your skin, leading to more dryness. To counter this you can follow up with a watery serum/essence and pat it in until the tacky feeling is gone. I actually read that there are people who spray their face with just plain water after using HA lotions, so I've been trying it out.
Overall, I really like it! It keeps my skin hydrated (and happy!) throughout the day, and when I use it at night I wake up with soft and supple skin. I haven't been using Vitamin C in my routine recently, but I've been noticing my newer PIH fading slowly over time, so that's probably because of the Activating Treatment Lotion. It works well with the rest of my routine, which is a must.
I don't remember if I've mentioned this before, but I've been dealing with a lot of hormonal + post-COVID related breakouts, so I've had to switch out my usual skincare products for (even) milder ones. Basic, no-frills skincare products that can sustain my oily-dehydrated skin, but also won't further irritate my skin. My Shirojyun Premium was actually working well in that regard so I was planning to repurchase when I ran out, but then I received the Activating Treatment Lotion right at that time. I'm super thankful to Wishtrend for letting me try this! I've been looking for a Korean equivalent for the Hada Labo toners for so long, I'm glad I finally found it 🥰
