OLENS Russian Smoky Contact Lens Review | chainyan.co
Hey everyone – I'm back at it again with yet another contact lens review 🥰 Earlier this month OLENS Global sent me a bunch of new lenses to try! There's A LOT and I'm super excited to get to reviewing everything, but for today I'll only be talking about one particular design—the Russian Smoky*. Released just this May, this is the newest series of contact lens produced by OLENS. It seems like these days OLENS is always coming out with new designs, and I always get super excited when they do! 💖

When I first heard the name, "Russian Smoky," I immediately thought maybe it had something to do with another "Russian" lens design from OLENS, the popular Russian Velvet. And I was right—these are an upgraded version of the Russian Velvet line. The two have the same feel/vibe, but the Russian Smoky was made to look more natural, making it more versatile. This means you can use it for both daily and glam looks!

Russian Smoky lenses come in three colors: Gray, Brown, and Olive. While the design feels a lot like Russian Velvet's, the iris pattern on the Russian Smoky is visibly more natural-looking. They added a soft outer ring which I love, because this makes the design blend seamlessly with my dark brown eyes. The Russian Smoky also has a graphic diameter of 13.3mm, which is 0.6mm bigger than the original. The bigger graphic diameter means it now has an enlarging effect, but just enough that it still looks natural.

RUSSIAN SMOKY GRAY
Blue ice gray lenses with a soft gray outer ring and a soft hazel inner ring. When worn the design reminds me of the French Gold 3Con, but the colors are very different. The gray is SUPER VIVID even against my dark brown eyes. I feel like out of the three colors this one might be the hardest to pull off as daily lenses, unless that's your thing! They're super pretty though. This isn't a color I'd normally go for but somehow I ended up taking the most photos wearing these, that's how much I liked them! 😆 I can imagine these being a favorite if you like chic looks. Immediately I thought of Jennie from BLACKPINK and Ryujin from ITZY!

RUSSIAN SMOKY BROWN
Ash hazel lenses with a soft brown outer ring. At first glance it actually looks gray, but with a tinge of brown. This is the only color from the Russian Smoky line without an inner ring. Out of all the brown lenses I've tried from OLENS so far, I feel like these are the most unique color-wise! What I find fascinating about it is that it's such a muted color, yet the color still appears really vivid when worn. My favorite out of the three!

Story time! A couple of months back I was actually talking to my friend about the Russian Velvet lenses because I've seen a lot of my favorite Korean Youtubers wear them in their videos. I was interested in the brown ones but my friend told me that they had quite a strong yellow tint, which I don't like. That made me a bit sad because I really wanted to give them a try! Which is why I'm so glad they decided to update the brown color for the Russian Smoky. The soft tone of the ash hazel color is right up my alley!

RUSSIAN SMOKY OLIVE
Deep olive color lenses with a soft gray outer ring. This one has the hazel inner ring as well. Whenever I try out olive lenses I'm always curious about the color. My idea of olive is a somewhat muted yellowish green. Whenever I get olive lenses somehow I always end up questioning whether or not it's actually olive-colored, or if my idea of the color olive is just off, lol. So far though, this is probably the greenest out of all the olive lenses I've tried from OLENS. The Scandi ones were a bit too muted in color for me. As for the French Gold 3Con ones, the color was nice but it didn't show very well against my eyes. The Russian Smoky has the best olive color, in my opinion! Super pretty, and even prettier in natural light.

As with all of OLENS' 1Day lenses, Russian Smoky lenses are made from Puscon (Phosphorylcholine), a highly biocompatible and hydrophilic material. Puscon lenses have higher water content than most lenses (48%), so even if my eyes get dry easily I'm able to wear them for a long period of time without any problems.

Fun fact: while I was taking photos of the packaging I found out from the box that OLENS lenses are actually manufactured by GEO Medical! Years ago I always preferred GEO lenses because they're very comfortable to wear so when I found out all I could think was, "ahhh" lol.

Another lens review, another favorite lens. I swear every time OLENS sends me new designs to try I always end up having a new favorite. They never disappoint! If you're looking for lenses with a more dramatic effect but find the Russian Velvet line too striking, then the Russian Smoky is your best bet. The color and design show up really well even on my dark brown eyes. They remind me of Solotica hidrocor lenses, but these feel more comfortable to wear. I usually have a hard time wearing more vivid lenses because they feel heavier on the eyes, but I didn't have that problem with these. Love that the Russian Smoky lenses are slightly enlarging too, since the enlarging effect gives my eyes a much softer look (thereby making me look kinder hehe).
