Hey everyone! I'm back with yet another K-beauty review (my third one this week, can you believe it??), courtesy of bntnews International. This time, I'll be reviewing something from Catalina GEO – their Gel Eyeliner in Deep Black*.

Catalina GEO is a Korean cosmetics brand under the same parent company as Lafine, Lamy Cosmetics. The brand takes its name "Catalina" from an Italian saint from Siena. Catalina was a sublime and holy saint, characterized by progressive and independent personality. Therefore, the brand pursues both purity and beauty, supported by confidence and passion.

Catalina Geo claims: "Long-lasting water-proof and smudge-proof gel eyeliner that makes your eyes look more defined and beautiful."

I LOVE eyeliner. When I was just starting with makeup, one of the things I realized was able to change my look so much was eyeliner. Just by lining my eyes, I felt like I looked like an entirely different person already! This was even before I learned how to use eyebrow products, eyeshadow, lip tint, etc. Even now, I still can't live without eyeliner. My preferred type is liquid eyeliner, but I'm always interested in trying out new things, so I was really looking forward to trying this gel eyeliner.

The packaging is very simple and straightforward, from the box to the product itself. The top part is the cap, and inside is a short brush that you pull out to use to apply the liner. The bottom part is the small jar contains the eyeliner itself. This type of packaging is usually convenient, since I don't have to bring a separate brush, but in this case the part that attaches the brush to the cap doesn't click completely, so the brush has a tendency to fall out. I'm afraid I might lose the brush since it's quite small.

While having a brush included is quite convenient, the brush itself is a bit too thick to use for this eyeliner. I tried to make thinner lines with the brush, but I couldn't. Unless you like making your eyeline thick, it's better to get a thinner brush.

Swatches! Top - The first line was drawn using the brush included, with one swipe. The next two lines were drawn using product left on the brush.
Bottom - For the first line, I used a thinner brush to apply the liner, but it was still quite thick. The second line was drawn with my usual liquid liner.

The color on the label says "deep black", and that's exactly what the color is. One swipe with the brush is enough to get that deep black color. It's creamy and pigmented, although it's not as super black as some of my other liners. It dries matte, but you'll have to wait for it to set completely otherwise it might smudge, especially if you have oily lids.

I drew some lines on the back of my hand using the Catalina GEO gel liner, then I placed my hand under running water for a while. After the water test the lines stayed intact, so I did a smudge test by rubbing the middle part with my finger for about a minute. The liner is still there, but a bit smudged. I think this was because I didn't wait for the lines to dry completely before doing the water and smudge test, since after this I tried removing everything with just soap and water and nothing happened. I was too lazy to remove it, so it was there until the next day! With this, I guess you could say that as long as you wait for it to set properly, this product is indeed both water-proof and smudge-proof, and can last the whole day.

This product isn't locally available in the Philippines, so you'll have to order it online. I'm not sure if Catalina GEO has a global site where you can purchase it though. I can't even find details on the price online :(

+ Creamy and pigmented
+ Dries a solid matte black
+ Water-proof and smudge-proof
+ Can last the whole day

- Brush is too thick to draw a soft / thin line
- Has a tendency to smudge if you don't wait for it to set
- Not locally available in the Philippines

Right now, I still can't make a solid verdict on this gel liner. It's creamy and pigmented, and is a deep black color that I like. The only problem I have with this at the moment is that is that the brush is too thick to make a thin line. But the thing is, I wasn't able to do a proper test of this item as I rarely go out these days (I don't wear makeup at home). As I haven't actually used this on my eyes, I still can't tell if it's good or bad. With what I've seen from my water and smudge tests though, I'm assuming this will perform just as well on my eyes. I'll do a proper test one of these days, and I'll update this post when I do!
